Expertise: Recycling, and Countering Misinformation in the Media

The waste world is complex and hidden from view, which means the media often draws the wrong conclusions about how things work, to the detriment of the industry and society at large. Gretchen K Carey is an established subject matter expert in the world of recycling and regulatory waste compliance who focuses on working with the media to improve waste world knowledge.

Over the last 5 years she has spoken out for better recycling industry transparency in order to counter the misinformation in the media on the topic, and allow people to see it for themselves. Appearing in local news and giving tours of recycling facilities are two ways Gretchen and MassRecycle have bolstered local confidence. Nationally, she has led the charge in encouraging the industry to open its doors to the public.
